It's Sad, but It's the Best Decision

Saturday, March 26th, 2011

No one wants to think about they day when their parents will be too frail to look after themselves. My dad is in his 80s, so I think he stayed independent much longer than most people. When my mom passed away last year though, we all knew it was time to look around for skilled nursing homes for Dad to move to. He doesn’t want to leave the home he’s owned and lived in all these years. I can’t blame him, it’s the house all us kids grew up in and there are so many memories there. We all have busy lives, and of course none of us would be able to live with ourselves if something happened to Dad while he was there all alone. Now at least, we know that he will be safe and comfortable. We’ll be able to visit him any time we want, and we definitely plan on it.

Asking a Friend to Be a Godparent

Tuesday, February 8th, 2011

Lore has just gotten back to work today. She has been on maternity leave for two months and it looks like she has wholeheartedly embraced the mission of motherhood. Despite gaining a little more weight, Lore seems really happy. Whenever she gets the chance, she readily shares her experience a first time mom the joys and the pains, too. When she was on her way to the accounting office to ask about her statutary maternity pay, she bumped into her friend, Mia. Mia was surprised to see her, as she was not expecting her to be back until next week. They hugged and chatted for a while. Lore found it a fitting opportunity to formally invite Lore for her babys christening, which is scheduled over the weekend. She was also told that shed be one of the godparents, so there was no way she was not going. Lore would not stop until Mia said yes to the invitation. As expected of course, Mia said yes. After all, Lore was one of the closest to her among all her officemates.

She Needed to Find a New Paid or Reading Glasses

Saturday, December 25th, 2010

Every Saturday morning I drive to the next town over and I pick up my grandmother to take her to get her shopping done. I do not want her driving and I like spending time with her. This weekend she said she needed to find a new paid or reading glasses because her little dog chewed hers up when she put them on the nightstand one evening. So, I picked her up as usual and we went to the pharmacy to look. She did not find any she liked and none that fit her strength. So I suggested I go online and find her a nice pair that would last her a while. She was not computer savvy, but I was. So when we got back to her house I got my laptop out and browsed for a while. She found 2 pairs she liked and I ordered them both for her. She was happy to know that the mail man would deliver them right to her front door.

When Anya is Bored She Goes on a Surfing Frenzy

Saturday, December 11th, 2010

Sometimes when Anya is bored and is at her wits end she would spend her time online surfing aimlessly. She would click on one link to another and would end up on web sites that we have never heard of. When you look at her browser you would be surprised to find at the wide array of tabs sprouting one after the other. Phyllis used to tell her that what she is doing is conducive to getting infected with a virus. There was a time where she ended up on a porn site after clicking through so many ads. Landing on this site earned her a trojan which made the performance of her laptop really slow, it was a good thing that her anti-virus software was able to remove it successfully. We thought that with that experience she would have learned a lesson by now but we were damn wrong. Earlier today after she finished her breakfast she was sitting in front of her computer searching Google for benefits agency bathgate and clicking on all the links that came out of the search result page. We just hope this would not result to any spyware or malware infection on her laptop.

Never Give False Information To Receive Grants

Monday, October 18th, 2010

Some people try to fool the government by extracting grants for which they are not eligible and when they are caught they start asking for help. I knew Peter because he stayed a few blocks away from my house. I also knew that he was unemployed for the last two years after he had lost his job. One morning I got a call from Peter as I was preparing to leave for work and he sounded very worried. I asked him to come over to my place in the evening since I had a very important client to meet. Peter arrived in the evening looking very worried so I asked him to tell me what the problem was. He told me that he was claiming unemployment benefits for some time but he had not informed the authorities that he was also receiving rent for a piece of land which he given on hire. The authorities came to know about it and now they have kept his unemployment benefits on hold and have asked him to appear personally before them. I told Peter the only solution he had was to tell the authorities the truth and hope that they give him a minimum fine.

Longshoreman And Mesothelioma Settlements

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

If you were a longshoreman in the 20th century, and were exposed to asbestos, you should consider seeking a mesothelioma settlement. Many ships built in a 40 year block during the 20th century contained asbestos throughout the ship because it was fire resistant and desirable in areas of combat. Those who worked below deck had an increased risk of asbestos exposure because rooms below deck were often poorly ventilated so the asbestos fibers linger in the respiratory system once breathed in. Because the asbestos industry realized what a lucrative opportunity the maritime industry and shipbuilding industry was to take advantage of, a lot of the health concerns were shielded from the public. Thus, many maritime workers, including longshoreman, people in the navy, and those aboard ships did not take any precautions in protecting themselves from asbestos exposure. In 1980, a study was done that showed 86 percent of workers who had spent at least 20 years in ship repair had developed a respiratory disease.
