Getting Going in Germany

Friday, February 18th, 2011

I really don’t know about anyone else, but I really hate when I am traveling and have a big question mark in my head about how I am going to get around when I get there. Sometimes it is like having blind faith and hoping that a shuttle or a taxi is going to appear at the airport to get me where I need to go. I recently learned in Germany that it is possible to hire a mini bus to get you back and forth from the airport. Being me, I decided to search “mini bus hire germany” on the web and found that there are a lot of places out there that can help with getting you from the airport to your hotel and from your hotel to your business meetings without having to hire a taxi to get where you want to go. Being a business owner, I know I don’t want to my travel dollars to all go to hiring a taxi driver to get me around and I am glad there are these options.

Fast and Easy Driving Directions

Saturday, November 20th, 2010

Suppose you’ve been invited to your friend’s home, which you’ve never been to before. It’s a drive of at least several hours away. She lives in another state, and this worries you because you’re not good at finding new places.

In past years, you would have had to ask your friend for detailed directions, which she may or may not have been able to give you from where you live.

Or you would have had to take out an atlas and try to figure out the major routes.

These days you can use a gps or global positioning system. That can be good while you’re on the road and might make a wrong turn. But if you’re the type that likes to know what you’re doing and where you’re going ahead of time, you’ll appreciate doing mapquest directions driving. You can sit at your computer and enter the address you’re starting from and your friend’s destination address. You’ll find the whole set of directions laid out for you, whether you want to travel via major routes or smaller roads. You can also see a map of the entire route and the area it encompasses. It gives you a good sense of where you’re going so you can plan ahead.

My Job Loves Me

Wednesday, November 10th, 2010

I do some light traveling for my job. Usually I rent a car from the airport to get around paid for by my job. Recently, I arrived in an airport in Birmingham and a man dressed in a black suit was holding a sign with my name on it. I was quite impressed with this airport meet and greet. My company really hooked me up with this trip. It was my first time to Birmingham. Didn’t know where I was going, now I don’t need to. My chauffeur stayed with me for the duration of my trip, which was only a day. But it was a nice gesture by my company. It really makes me feel important. It also helps to build employee loyalty. Not many companies do what mine did for me these days with the economy being in the dumps and all. So kudos to my company for making me feel like a half million bucks!

Three Etiquette Tips To Ensure An Enjoyable Hostel Experience

Saturday, August 7th, 2010

Many people traveling in Europe choose to stay in hostels thanks to its low price when compared to a hotel. There is no doubt that sleeping in hostels is a unique experience and one which any traveler can enjoy. For people planning to backpack through Europe on a budget, hostels are a necessary requirement for making the trip cost effective. But besides the monetary reasons for staying in a hostel, it is also a great place to get in touch with European culture and meet fellow travelers to share stories with. However, if you’ve never slept in a hostel before, there are a few etiquette tips to make sure you and others enjoy your stay to the fullest.

  1. Be Quiet At Night – There is nothing more annoying than a noisy group of drunks shouting and chatting throughout the entire night. Be considerate, because after all how much would you like it if you were trying to sleep but that stupid drunk guy kept you up all night?
  2. Don’t Turn On The Lights – If it’s past 10 or 11 o clock at night, don’t turn the lights on. Nobody wants to be woken up by a bright life in the middle of the night. Some people have trouble sleeping with lits on so be considerate.
  3. Pack The Night Before – One of the most frustrating and annoying things is waking up way too early because people are packing up to head out. Take the time to pack up your stuff the night before, that way when you’re ready to leave in the morning, you don’t wake up other people who are trying to sleep a little bit late.

Overall, hostel etiquette really just requires you to use common sense and be considerate. Not only is it polite, but in some European destinations, you don’t want to upset the wrong ‘sleeping giant’.

Feasting Felines

Monday, July 12th, 2010

Many people love animals, both wild and tame. But feral cats are not high on the list of animals to spot when on New Zealand adventure tours. Some of us may not realise the detrimental effects our beloved pets can have on New Zealand’s native wildlife. The humble moggie is a prime example.

Although they have the appearance of a cuddly ball of fur, the instincts of a wild cat are always lurking beneath the surface. Cats are carnivorous, naturally stalking and hunting their prey. It’s estimated that cats kill 3.8 million native animals every year, including small mammals, birds, lizards and frogs. Even a well-fed pet may hunt if given the opportunity.

The number of feral cats in New Zealand alone is currently estimated at about 1.5 million — more than the number of domestic cats! Feral cats are cunning predators and one of the most damaging feral animals in this country.
